What does the shell look like?
- The shell is only slightly curved.
- The ammonite is coiled in a knot-like pattern made of U-shapes.
- The ammonite grows straight out and turns 180 degrees and begins coiling the other way. (If the turn is broken, then there should be two parallel shafts (straight shell).)
- The shell is coiled at least partially in a conical manner.
- The ammonite is coiled in a very loose spiral.
- The ammonite is coiled in a spiral at first, but then goes straight out and hooks back.
- The ammonite is coiled in a fairly regular shape.
- The ammonite starts off coiling normally, but then makes one massive whorl that does not come close to touching the previous coils.
